Volunteer

There are PLENTY of ways that volunteers can help this league to succeed.  In fact, it can’t be done without you.  This is a volunteer-run organization and all of the following can only happen if each of you helps in whatever way you can.  Some activities require only one day at the start of the season, others ask for an hour or two throughout the season.  Some require knowledge of baseball or softball, many do not.  Please take a look here and indicate the activity you’d be willing to participate in that best suits your skills and availability.

IMPORTANT NOTE.  Little League Baseball (the national organization) has implemented a new regulation.  All leagues are required to complete background checks for all volunteers or hired workers who provide regular service to the league and/or have repetitive access to or contact with players or teams.   This applies to all of the positions below marked with an asterisk (*).

Head Coach*
A head coach develops and runs each team.  This involves direct involvement wit the kids, teaching skills, supporting their development, coaching games.  Coaching clinics are being scheduled.  If you volunteer in this capacity, the director of your division will contact you.

Team Parent* For more info contact your child’s coach
Team parents are an invaluable asset to the league.  The coordinate all non-baseball activity for their teams such as distributing and tracking uniforms, communicating schedule changes, and planning team events.

Umpires* For more info contact Sean Luitjens, sean.luitjens@gmail.com
Skilled umpires, or individuals willing to be trained, are ALWAYS needed and much appreciated.  This is a very, very important job requiring knowledge of LL baseball or softball rules and regulations, an eye for fairness, and a sense of humor.  We cannot run games at the upper levels without skilled support here.  The director of umpires will contact you if you volunteer here.

Snack Bar* For more info contact Sean Luitjens, sean.luitjens@gmail.com
The snack bar generates a large portion of our operating costs.  This absolutely cannot run without parent volunteers.  Volunteer for just one shift or help out on a regular basis. Be part of the most efficient and profitable year ever for this great amenity!

Field Maintenance For more info contact Sean Luitjens, 899-2935, sean.luitjens@gmail.com
Again, with sufficient volunteers, this group contributes significantly to the league.  Most help is needed at the beginning of the season for field “work days”.  Without sufficient volunteers, it is nearly impossible to maintain our fields in a manner that permits safe, enjoyable playing experiences for all.

Fundraising For more info contact Sean Luitjens, 899-2935, sean.luitjens@gmail.com
Parents are always welcome to join the fundraising committee and develop better, easier, friendlier ways to generate the revenue needed to operate the JYL.  An active group of people in this area is key to keeping registration fees from skyrocketing.
